Thanks for being so informative Pundit, because I had no idea that Elijah Cumming was one of those who'd flip flopped. I actually watched him multiple times on C-SPAN interrogating the companies and others related to the bailout. I suppose that was really nothing more that grandstanding in light of your revelation...

Cheri

Barack the Healer

Hey AAPP, you certainly have a point on principle, yet:

Obama wants to bring in Republicans. You could argue that bringing in people from the party that practices bigotry on a systematic basis is just as bad or worse. Why is he doing it? He believes it will make his Administration more effective. And it might. If this is so, maybe he should dedicate his time to governing, and leave the setting straight of the record to academics/bloggers/etc.

Adding her also sends the message of not holding bitter grudges but appealing to the better angels of our characters. Perhaps Obama's wisdom is in knowing that by bringing Hillary aboard, in four or eight years down the line, Obama will do more to decrease bigotry by making whites who were opposed to him for his race less apt to think antagonistically towards people of color in the future. And remember, as the first black President, he unfortunately has a fine line to walk--he wasn't particularly revolutionary during the campaign because of this reality.

AAPP,

Given the tenor of the McPhalin camp during the last days of the campaign, I am honestly not surprised that we have not seen more violence towards AA's and Obama supporters.

Presidential appointments

There may be dissapointment about appointments but I believe it will be more about picking the right person for the job rather race or loyalty far from the cronyism of the Bush administration. I think that was why Powell was let go. He had taken a stand early against the Iraq invasion against the Bush plan.

As for the inner city I don't see many blacks run for office. If they don't run they can't be elected. When you stop to consider can you blame them? They can make far more money in the private sector with far less aggrevation.

Just Adding My Two Cents Worth

AAPP,

One of the most mind boggling facts that I am still processing is the standards for poverty in this era. A family of four who has an annual income of 41,000 plus is now considered to be low income. A family of four earning 21,000 plus is considered to be impoverished.

The latter figure was not that difficult for me to mentally digest. But the $41,000 plus being low income was a wake up call of sorts. Am I mistaken, wasn't this once considered to be the earnings of the lower middle class. And at one time this wasn't this considered to be a decent income?

It seems to me that as a society have not been really paying attention to the decline of our society in terms of economics. I also suspect that the large poverty rate is also due to female headed households in the nation.

What I found interesting about the article is the suggestions for resolving this problem. There are points that run in line with what Barack is proposing to do in terms of the economy.

I also cannot help but to wonder are we not preparing for the job markets of this century? I have questioned this because it seems to me that we are not pushing for the type of educational experiences that include math, science and technologies. I am certainly just speculating about this being a possible cause in the rate.

Very informative and full of good links and photographs!

I am so relieved and happy to see Barack Obama (and America) where we are right now!

Now that D.L.Hughley guy showed us earlier on that he has color aroused hatred toward Black women and now he shows that he has what may well be a color aroused disregard for the campaign of Barack Obama, based on what you've said above. (I haven't got time to read his nonsense personally, but I'm glad you've kept us up to date on him.)

The news is all great about Barack Obama and all terrible for John McCain and his band of washed up color arousers. That woman in Virginia with the backwards B on her face was the low point of the entire General Election perhaps, except for McCain calling her to congratulate her for her patently and obviously false accusations.

The O-State Elections~From My Viewpoint

AAPP,

I have a very different view of voting in my home state.

The mechanics of voting was just one of the problems that we had to deal with in Ohio. There are similar reports of the machines failing to accurately record votes nationwide. (Check out Brad's Blog on this subject). When Brunner took office she already knew that there was some form of mechanical failure occurring. It was so bad at one point that even she stated during a meeting that she would use a paper ballot if things were not resolved in time.

SoS Brunner had to do battle after the study results were made public to get the system uniformed. That was a tremendous battle for her office. The ORP put up one helluva a fight to keep things running the way that they had under former SoS Kenneth Blackwell. We may have a Democratic Governor but this is a GOP state.

The rights of O-State voters had been abused. And Brunner has worked relentlessly to make that aspect of voting correct. Which includes the use of paper ballots. Ever since I learned that the former head of Diebold had ties to Bush, I refuse to use their product.

Democracy has been in jeopardy since Bush took office. That trend began during the start of his administration.

I found that voting in the primary and the national elections was 100% better than it was in 2004.

It is sounding more and more like the sixties with this type of story circulating around.

I am so happy that Ashley Todd got busted! She is really a piece of work!

It also shows what type of mentality McPhalin' has opened up with their latest racially aroused surge! It made this pathetic wench feel that it would be okay to blame a black man for beating her up and branding her.

This type of action just pisses me off! I am the mother of three black men and I would hate to see any one of the three become a target for arrest or an assault because some desperate white woman decides to try and turn the clock back with a BIG LIE!

Apparently she has no idea what the outcome of such a story could be. I bet if you asked her who Emmett Till was and what happened to him, she would have no clue.

I can think of a better word for that B that is carved on her face. Because she certainly comes across as one.

I think I've been screaming about this for a while now. Demand a paper ballot! That is your right. And if there is any doubt about the outcome, demand a hand recount. That is the only reason we have a democratic governor in our state. AAPP I hope you'll get the word out about this or they will try and steal another election and this country can not afford it.

Are We Really Surprised?

AAPP,

This is really a good post! It is about time that the state of the GOP is exposed to the public. I have maintained since the primary that the GOP was a divided house. So much attention was focused on the Democrats that seemed to be overlooked.

I have a good friend who is a Republican. He has had little to say about McCain as their top of the ticket. He definitely believes that Palin was a gimmick choice and that it was not done in an intelligent manner.

What I found interesting was the statement written by the black male Republican named Dennis. He stated political facts, stood behind Colin Powell's decision to back Obama and gave some very solid reasons for his opinions.

It will be interesting to see what the GOP will do after this election. I daresay that their party needs to really consider opening itself up and examining why it is not honestly reflective of the contemporary American society. Their 08 convention definitely made a very serious statement about their lack of political appeal to people of color.

Following Up on This Story

AAPP,

I posted a follow up story about this frickin' food stamp crap. The head of the California GOP has warned party members not to send out any more hostile materials about Obama or people of his race. If you get a chance check it out.

What really stood out in the story was not the admonishment from the party chief, it was the statement made by Sheila Raines in the follow up. She still believes in the GOP and is still willing to support the party. This is a good woman...because after that stunt they wouldn't be able to buy my vote for their ticket.

There are 200 women in that club. She is the only one who spoke out against sending that stamp out. Since the story broke in the national media only one woman has contacted her. One out of 198 women have not bothered to even try and console Raines.

The president of this group needs to be removed. She has tried to make it seem as if she had no clue that total package was racist. Please! I also read that one of the women who was interviewed said she like kool aid and barbeque and didn't see the racial implications on the stamp.
